Frequently asked questions
- What is myofficestatus?
- myofficestatus is a platform that connects your calendar to a physical status light in your home. When a meeting starts, the light turns red. When it ends, it goes green. Your family knows when to leave you alone — without checking an app or guessing.
- How does the status light work?
- The light connects to WiFi and is controlled through our web app. You can set your status manually with one tap, or sync your calendar (Pro plan) so the light updates automatically. Works with our official hardware, compatible smart lights, or a DIY ESP32 build.
- What calendars does it sync with?
- Google Calendar, Microsoft Outlook, and Apple Calendar (iCal) on the Pro plan and above. More integrations (Calendly, Zoom, Teams) are planned.
- Is there a free plan?
- Yes. The free plan gives you one device, manual status control from the web dashboard, and 3 preset colors. No credit card required, no time limit.
- How much does it cost?
- Free for basic use. Pro is $4.99/month ($39.99/year) for calendar sync and customization. Family/Team is $8.99/month ($79.99/year) for multiple users and unlimited devices. Hardware is sold separately or you can use your own.
- Do I need to buy your hardware?
- No. You can use a compatible third-party device (WLED, LIFX, Tuya, Shelly, and more), build your own with an ESP32 for under $25, or buy our pre-configured Quick Start Light ($49.99) for a plug-and-play experience.
- What devices are compatible?
- Any WLED-compatible device (full support), LIFX, Shelly, and Tuya lights (supported), plus Philips Hue and Govee (community-supported). See our DIY & Compatible Devices page for the full list.
- Does it work with Home Assistant?
- Yes. myofficestatus integrates with Home Assistant via MQTT or REST API polling. An ESPHome config and a dedicated HACS integration are also planned.
- Can I build my own light?
- Absolutely. Our open-source 'Status Beacon' reference design uses an ESP32 and a NeoPixel LED ring — total cost around $12–25. Full build guide and firmware on GitHub. No soldering required.
- How big is the official light? Where can I put it?
- The Quick Start Light is about 4" x 2" x 1". It comes with a desk stand and door-mount clip so you can place it wherever it's most visible.
- Can I customize the status messages?
- On the Pro plan you get up to 10 custom status labels with full RGB color choice. The Family/Team plan gives you unlimited custom messages.
